Your simple but effective guide for first-time and new shavers. Because shaving doesn’t need to be complicated!

Why Shave?

The Benefits of Shaving

We made it rhyme because that's fun

Exfoliate

Shaving is a great way to exfoliate your skin, removing dry, dead skin along with hairs.

Hydrate

After a clean, close shave, your skin is better equipped to absorb moisture, leaving it feeling soft & healthy!

Celebrate

While shaving isn’t for everyone, those who shave report that it can help them feel more confident. Whether it’s for a night out, or as a part of your staying-in, bedtime routine… your skin deserves to look and feel like Pure Silk!

Before You Begin

Preparation

No more rhyming, but pay attention. This is still important!

 Remove sweat & dirt

Start with a thorough, exfoliating body wash to help prepare your skin for shaving.

Start with a clean, sharp razor

Ensure you have a clean, sharp razor like the Pure Silk Contour 6!

Check your shave cream or oil

Confirm you have enough shave cream or oil for the job. There’s nothing worse than running out midway through a shave!

01

Do I shave with the grain or against the grain?

It’s totally dependent on your preference!

↓

With the Grain

Shaving with the grain—downward or with the direction of hair growth—is typically the safest approach. This method helps reduce the likelihood of irritation, razor burn, and the dreaded ingrown hairs.

↑

Against the Grain

Shaving against the grain—upward or against the direction of hair growth—will provide the closest shave. This could lead to increased irritation or ingrown hairs. Make sure you are properly prepping your skin and using a clean razor if choosing this method.

02

How often should I shave?

There’s not a one-size-fits-all answer for everyone. It depends on how quickly your hair grows, your personal hygiene preferences, amongst other things.

What we will say is whether you shave daily, weekly, or for special occasions, we recommend using Pure Silk products for a close, comfortable, and most importantly, healthy shave!

Are there special rules for shaving sensitive areas?

Yes, yes, yes!

When shaving sensitive areas, it’s important to shave slowly and with appropriate pressure, taking care not to press down too hard.

Take your time.

Use appropriate pressure and avoid pressing down too hard.

Ensure the area is fully covered with shave cream or shave oil.

Take intentional, short shaving strokes to reduce the risk of nicks and cuts.

Always, always, always, listen to your skin.

The Finishing Touch

Moisturize

Some products like Pure Silk Shave Oil help retain maximum moisture after shaving. In the event your skin still feels dry or chaffed, be sure to apply a post shave moisturizer to soothe and restore hydration as needed.
